PRP Facial Rejuvenation Selphyl®

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a safe and effective strategy of facial rejuvenation. It is safe since PRP is produced from your own blood; therefore there is no risk of an allergic reaction. In addition, PRP contains concentrated amount of white blood cells, your natural defenders against infections. As a result, infection is extremely rare with PRP treatment.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an extract of your own blood that contains three to five times more platelets, growth factors, and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. For facial rejuvenation, when PRP is injected beneath the skin it will cause a localized stem cell response, over time the stem cell response recruits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts replace tissue that has been damaged or lost through the aging process with healthy skin that looks refreshed, rejuvenated and aesthetic. PRP owes its effectiveness to the medicinal properties of blood platelets. Platelets are important for clotting our blood and repairing our body. They also release ‘growth factor’ which stimulates stem cells to repair and produce new healthy tissue. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are “bioactive” stimulators and not fillers, increasing collagen - providing a gradual increase in skin thickness.

Platelet rich plasma - PRP - can be used to improve skin texture, lines and wrinkles. By placing it into the deeper skin layer fibroblasts and other cells are stimulated to a more youthful function. Areas like crepey areas under eyes and in necks, lines above the upper lip, crows feet, Nasolabial folds, can show dramatic improvement. The PRP mimics the subdermal tissue. The body responds by building up new supportive tissue, and collagen production also increases.

Usually three treatments will be required generally 6 weeks apart. PRP Rejuvenation is a gradual process with changes continuing to show for three to six months after the treatment. Generally PRP lasts about 2 years. Some people elect to do a single session each year after the initial 2 years, to boost and lengthen the effect of the original group of treatments.

Side Effects?
There will be some short-lasting pinkness or redness of the skin following injection of the platelet rich plasma - PRP. Bruising is also a possibility as the needle is used to place the PRP into the skin. This may take a week or so to resolve.

Reducing fine lines and wrinkles

Selphyl®

The SELPHYL® System is available exclusively through qualified healthcare practitioners for the safe and rapid collection of autologous PRP, using a small amount of your own blood.

How long does the procedure take?

The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform in your doctor’s office.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient, the desired outcome, and your doctor’s treatment plan. As a stand-alone therapy, many physicians recommend a series of one to three injection sessions spaced from four to six weeks apart for optimal results.

Is the treatment painful?

Unlike other products that are acidic (low pH), SELPHYL® has close to physiologic pH. There may be some temporary discomfort during the injections, and occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly.

Are there any side effects?

There have been no known side effects reported to date. Some patients may experience some mild irritation, swelling, bruising, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection sites. These are temporary conditions and typically resolve within two days.

How long does it last?

The longevity of the results of SELPHYL® treatments vary based on the extent of the procedure, areas treated, and number of sessions.

Can anyone be allergic to SELPHYL®?

There is virtually no risk of allergic reaction and no allergic reactions have been reported to date. The SELPHYL® System is used to rapidly collect and isolate a patient’s own PRP for injection and contains no animal or synthetic products.

FAQs

What results should you expect from the treatment?
Results are visible from about 3 weeks and improve gradually over ensuing months with improvement in texture and tone.

How is this different to Dermal Fillers?
This procedure is completely different to Dermal Fillers and has a different result.  Dermal fillers restore lost volume by injecting Hyaluronic Acid into the areas where volume is lost.  PRP does not create that effect and will not volumize but rather plump and rejuvenate the quality and texture of the skin. It has a great effect on fine lines & wrinkles.  These two procedures can be combined into one.

Is the procedure painful?
Local Anesthetic and numbing cream is applied to the face 45 minutes before the procedure, making the treatment very comfortable. There may be some temporary discomfort during the injections, and occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly.

How long is the treatment?
On the treatment day, the entire visit lasts approx. 1.5 hours. The actual procedure requires about 20 minutes per area.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient, the desired outcome, and your doctor’s treatment plan. As a stand-alone therapy, many physicians recommend a series of one to three injection sessions spaced from four to six weeks apart for optimal results.
